The wood work is lovely the home , but having problems Identifying the wood..they think it is Clear Red Pine . Was originally equipped with Gas lights and found one still in the Master Chambers and two in adjacent Room upstairs. Has been upgraded to Electric but Antique style light fixtures. This home is Quiet Unique, it not only has 2 working sets pocket doors but also has two large Coffin Doors at what use to main entrance . ( for those who don't know what they are..they are very very large 4 foot wide and 7.5 Feet tall swinging doors that allowed the family to let their loved one lay in state in the home for Visitation.) The home did have a Dumb Waiter but only the doors remain..it now holds the Electric wiring and Plumbing . Most doors are 7.5 feet tall and not sure how tall the ceiling are but tall. ( I believe the dinning and both parlor's have barreled ceilings , at least I think that is what they are called) Before I take you on tour of the home..I would like to give you some history of the home...Please read this part because it does explain why the home was not lived in for many years but was fully furnished and kept just as it was during that time and up keep was provided... A man named Charles A. Foster and his Wife Florance came to Trenton in 1885 to purchase a drug store That they operated for 24 years. Mr. Foster was a Pharmacist . In 1888 they purchased the land from a Mrs. Leavitt and between 1890 -1892 the home was built. The Foster's were very interesting couple, Actually having a large farm and raising Jersey Cows and building and operating Foster Jersey Ice Cream Factory next to the home. Florence passes away in 1917 and Mr. Foster was left alone in the big house..They never had Children. A family named Walton arrived in Trenton in 1911 and Mr. James M. and Nellie Walton were here 6 years as he served as the Minister of a Church here and Mr. Walton passes away of a Heart attack also in 1917 leaving Nellie and her 4 Children to carry on with out him. Mr. Foster was a member of that church..And in 1920 married Nellie ...so the home was full again. But in December of 1936 Mr. Foster along with 3 other business men from Trenton had gone to St. Louis to purchase bonds for Trenton's first water district and on way home they had a bad car wreck and Mr. Foster was killed. Nellie was left to carry on alone this time . The children had left to live their own life's, Therefore from 1936 until her death in 1954 Nellie lives in the home along with her son Edward and his wife Pauline who have moved in with her to help her, staying until 1958 when Edward passes away leaving Pauline all alone in this very big house...the family owned the house next door so Pauline moved into the much smaller house..but kept this Victorian home just as it was , maintained and cleaned for many years.. Pauline lived next door tell the early 1990's when her health failed and her only son Charles took her to Kansas where he lived. Pauline died there in 1995 and Charles inherited the home..but he lived in Ks. so the home was not lived in tell 2002 when Charles died and the estate sold it . While Pauline and Charles were in Ks. the home was broken into and the Mantels to the two fire places were stolen..They have been replaced but are not the originals. The home was sold in 2002 and Lady who purchased it with last name of Tracy did do some improvements to the home and sold it to the current owners in 2005. The current owners put quiet a bit of money into the home keeping it as lovely as it ever was and yet modern enough for a family to enjoy. Has a large picture window with stained Lavender glass at the top..All windows in the home are Original... There are no stained glass windows other than this one in dinning room and one diamond shape in the Gentlemen's parlor. From the dinning room going to the east is a large 21 foot by 14 foot ladies sitting room with tall wooden columns between it and dinning room . to the north of the dinning room is another smaller entrance hall and this Out side entrance door is the one mainly used today to enter the home. Across the hall is another large set of pocket doors and you enter the Gentlemen's parlor and that room has large wooden plate rack or ledge and the second fireplace. Just off of it is the Butler's pantry that still has the large glass door cabinet built in . This room has been cut in half to made room for a half bath which is 4 ft. by 5.5 leaving the pantry the same size. the pantry doors are still there. From the pantry you enter the 16 ft. long 8 ft 10 inch wide kitchen that has been remolded to a very modern one. Cherry wood cabinets and built in micro wave and dishwasher that are included . Very pretty and functional. On one end of kitchen is the servants stair way and in the center is a short hall with closets and door to basement and this hall also leaks back to the foyer. The basement is in good condition for it's age and does have plumbing stub in if you would desire to put in a bathroom. it is dry but does have some moisture when it rains heavy. The home has a large forced air gas furnace that was installed in 2005 in good working order and is 90 % efficient and a central air unit installed at the same time. has 40 gallon electric water heater in good working order. The foundation is Thick heavy limestone and is sound...the floors are straight and do not even creek. All the plumbing is new plastic and copper..the Electric is up to code and newly done with large breaker box. Every thing is in good working order. The roof was put on new in 2005 and does not leak..in very good condition. The floor joist are large native wood..this home was built to last.... In 1888 they purchased the land from a Mrs. Leavitt and between 1890 -1892 the home was built. The Foster's were very interesting couple, Actually having a large farm and raising Jersey Cows and building and operating Foster Jersey Ice Cream Factory next to the home. Florence passes away in 1917 and Mr. Foster was left alone in the big house..They never had Children. A family named Walton arrived in Trenton in 1911 and Mr. James M. and Nellie Walton were here 6 years as he served as the Minister of a Church here and Mr. Walton passes away of a Heart attack also in 1917 leaving Nellie and her 4 Children to carry on with out him. Mr. Foster was a member of that church..And in 1920 married Nellie ...so the home was full again. But in December of 1936 Mr. Foster along with 3 other business men from Trenton had gone to St. Louis to purchase bonds for Trenton's first water district and on way home they had a bad car wreck and Mr. Foster was killed. Nellie was left to carry on alone this time . The children had left to live their own life's, Therefore from 1936 until her death in 1954 Nellie lives in the home along with her son Edward and his wife Pauline who have moved in with her to help her, staying until 1958 when Edward passes away leaving Pauline all alone in this very big house...the family owned the house next door so Pauline moved into the much smaller house..but kept this Victorian home just as it was , maintained and cleaned for many years.. Pauline lived next door tell the early 1990's when her health failed and her only son Charles took her to Kansas where he lived. Pauline died there in 1995 and Charles inherited the home..but he lived in Ks. so the home was not lived in tell 2002 when Charles died and the estate sold it . While Pauline and Charles were in Ks. the home was broken into and the Mantels to the two fire places were stolen..They have been replaced but are not the originals. The home was sold in 2002 and Lady who purchased it with last name of Tracy did do some improvements to the home and sold it to the current owners in 2005. The current owners put quiet a bit of money into the home keeping it as lovely as it ever was and yet modern enough for a family to enjoy.
